“Without memory, there is no culture. Without memory, there would be no civilization, no society, no future.”
– Elie Wiesel
On Memorial Day we pause to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This year, Memorial Day looks and feels different from the ones before it. Lockdowns are being lifted, stores are reopening, and social distancing measures are commonplace.
For healthcare providers this has been an extraordinary time. American Hospital Association CEO Rick Pollack put it best by saying that we have been hit with “A Triple Whammy.” The cost to prepare for the surge, a decrease in revenues due to cancelled elective procedures, and a rising rate of the uninsured. Last week the HFMA Oklahoma Board of Directors met to discuss the direction of the chapter.
First, the 65th Annual Anniversary Meeting presented by Eide Bailly will be postponed until the Spring of 2021. Anyone currently registered may receive a full refund through August 15th by contacting our Treasurer Toni Young. You may also keep your registration in place for the upcoming meeting next year. We are working with The Skirvin Hilton on finding a new date. In the interim, will be hosting our first ever One Day Virtual Meeting later this year – details will be forthcoming.
Second, the Board of Directors believes the continuity of leadership during this upcoming fiscal year will best position the chapter to serve its members and deliver on its mission to lead the financial management of healthcare in Oklahoma. After the precedent set by the HFMA National Board of Directors, we too feel the best move right now is to extend the service term of our chapter officers. A vote on three resolutions will take place this coming week. Our Secretary Cassie Walden, will be sending you more information so that you may vote.
Third, we need your input as we chart our course forward through this difficult time. Please complete the HFMA Oklahoma – Survey 2020 to let us know how to best serve you.
Finally, I am grateful to have served as your President this past year. I would be honored to serve a second term if confirmed by you.
